RAU Plough Service

The annual Plough Service took place on the evening of Sunday 16 February in the Parish Church of St John Baptist in Cirencester.

Thank you to everyone who braved the weather to join us for the first of our 175th Anniversary celebratory events. 

The Parish Church of St. John Baptist in Cirencester was where we commenced the celebrations, and despite the poor weather conditions over the weekend we still had a packed church.

In what can only be described as trying times, it’s more important than ever that the RAU continues to support and celebrate Agriculture, particularly as this was the basis of the founding of the Royal Agricultural College, as it was then, back in 1845. The service very much celebrated farmers, with farmers blessing and toasting the plough, hoping for a plentiful harvest ahead.

After the service, guests were treated to canapés and refreshments, with our very own Cotswold Hills wine and Muddy Wellies beer being served. It was the most wonderful celebration and way to kick off our series of 175th anniversary events.

We are thankful to the Earl Bathurst for his attendance last night, continued support and the toasting of the plough. Our special thanks must also go to all of those who contributed, took part and attended this special service - these events wouldn’t be possible without those who give up their time to support our University. As Canon Graham pointed out, here’s to the next 175 years!
