Conflict in Ukraine: A statement from the Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter McCaffery
We stand with Ukraine.
“Our whole RAU community is shocked by the appalling human tragedy that is unfolding in Ukraine. The conflict is an assault on the most fundamental human values that we hold dear – freedom, democracy, and the right to self-determination.
“We stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine. As the “bread basket of Europe”, the people of Ukraine share the same passionate commitment as us to farming and to the land – they are our kith and kin in spirit.
“We recognise this ongoing situation may affect, and worry, members of our RAU community and we have been in touch with all our students and staff to advise them on the support, guidance, and counselling we have available at this difficult time. We are also seeking to source charities and scholarships we may offer to those directly affected by the conflict.
“Nationally, we have endorsed the statements made by Guild HE, Universities UK and CARA (Council for At-Risk Academics).
“Our RAU community can be a real source of strength to us all in times of fear and loss in all parts of the world and, guided by our values, we will support everyone regardless of their background, nationality, or faith.”
