Life in the UK

The UK is one of the most popular countries in the world to study. It is renowned for its high educational standards, its heritage, safety and popular culture.

How will I find life at the University?

With students from over 40 different countries, the University provides a sense of community for students and staff, while offering a stimulating, unique learning environment.

Students enjoy a wide range of facilities within the stunning University grounds, which provide a backdrop for a vibrant social scene. We pride ourselves on being large enough that our facilities are on-site whilst offering a friendly atmosphere with a strong sense of community.

It is normal for new students to need support while adjusting to life in the UK and at university. The RAU has a dedicated Student Services team to help students throughout their RAU journey and are available to provide information, advice and guidance on a wide range of issues. Our goal is to support all of our students and ensure they have a rewarding experience from start to finish.

Where in England is the University?

Our picturesque campus is located on the edge of Cirencester, a beautiful market town located between London, Birmingham, Oxford and Bristol. It is at the centre of an attractive area of England called the Cotswolds (see map below).

The nearby town of Cirencester, which is within walking distance, is a thriving cultural hub. With plenty of restaurants, unique boutique shops and popular night spots, it’s easy to see why so many students never want to leave – even after graduating.

Bath, Bristol, Oxford and Cheltenham are all within an hour of the University and London is within 90 minutes by direct train, with Kemble Railway Station just three miles from campus.

The University is a 90 minute drive from London Heathrow and within two hours of Bristol and Birmingham airports.

What is unique about the University?

Established in 1845, the RAU has a wealth of experience. Our academics care about their subjects and their students. Working alongside business leaders and employers, they deliver courses that provide students with the tools, mind-set and networks they need to embrace the opportunities ahead and play essential, leading roles in shaping the future of the industry. The reach and influence of the RAU alumni network worldwide is testament to this.

In 2019, the University was named as the safest university in England and Wales.

The Royal Agricultural University is a Student Visa Sponsor and is on the Home Office’s Register of Sponsors.

The RAU Alumni network is a growing global hub of approximately 17,000 former students, supporters and friends all around the world. This network provides uniquely strong links to land-based industries and businesses. One example of this is the job portal on the Alumni website where alumni advertise jobs.

Where will I live?

The RAU offers catered and self-catered accommodation on campus, just a few minutes’ walk to the lecture blocks, library and study areas, dining room, café and shop, Students' Union bar, laundrette, gym and sports facilities.

If students wish to live off campus, the accommodation team is on hand to help them find their place in Cirencester or the surrounding area. Click here to find out more about living off-campus.

Students living off campus can catch the bus to and from University as the route covers areas in Cirencester which are popular with students.
