I have always wanted to work with horses, but after a week’s work experience as a groom in a very large re-training yard, I decided that wasn't the life for me! Having studied business management at school, and thoroughly enjoying it, I began to look at ways I could combine something I enjoyed academically with my passion for horses.
I chose to study BSc (Hons) Equine Management at the RAU because you learn such a vast range of skills. I don't know many places you can study equine law as well as equine genetics! Alongside this, the RAU has produced an impressive number of notable alumni within the equine industry.
Coming to the RAU was an overwhelming experience for me. The campus feels like a second home; all of the lecturers know you by name and are always there to help you with any problem, no matter how big or small, both academically and personally.
Whatever you put in to the University, you get back twofold, and that’s certainly the case for me.
Now I have graduated, I will be starting my career as a trainee accountant. For the next three years I will be working towards my ACA qualification. When I came to the University I wanted to be a vet, I never thought I would leave wanting to be an Accountant!
The ability to choose finance and accounting electives alongside other core business and science modules allowed me to learn what I excelled at, and what I enjoyed. I hope to eventually follow in the steps of one of my lecturers and become a bloodstock accountant.
The University not only prepares you for your chosen career; with help writing your CV and mock interviews, but it also prepares you for life; how to be bold and confident in your actions. Whatever you put in to the University, you get back twofold, and that’s certainly the case for me.
