My RAU experience
After completing 3 years studying a level 2 and level 3 Diploma in Agriculture, I knew I wanted to progress into the agricultural sector in a professional capacity and develop my knowledge. This is why I chose the RAU, the connections, skills and support to explore areas of interest meant I felt confident in progressing into the professional sector.
There are many aspects that I enjoyed about the RAU, but one that stands out is the connections I built with the lecturers and the student support team. They were vital for helping me stay grounded and keeping my head focused on what was in front of me. I also enjoyed the various options of modules that I could choose from, as it helped to personalise the course to my interests as well as gaining knowledge in future aspects of the industry that I may be interested in pursuing a career in.
As someone who is dyslexic, it can sometime be hard to find the tailored support needed to help overcome various tasks (particularly in an academic situation). However, the support shown from the academic support team was great, even from before I stepped foot on campus.
What I gained from the RAU
My course provided me with the opportunity to explore different aspects of the agricultural sector, allowing me to grow a sense of where my interests lied and where I may want to develop career specific skills. Due to the applied aspect of my course, it also meant that the skills gained from my course favoured themselves to practical application in the workplaces. This was backed up by the various modules based on developing academic and employment that can be applied in the 'real world'.
