My RAU experience
I chose to study the MSc Conservation and Management of Historic Buildings because the course contents aligned perfectly with what I wished to study, and offered me an ideal blend of theoretical knowledge and learning alongside practical skills.
I found most, if not all, lectures to be an engaging and enjoyable experience and there was a plethora of different and equally exciting field trips that all helped to really make the learning experience special. However, to pick one I would point to the time we visited Woodchester Mansion and had a tour from a master stonemason. This was a particularly fascinating site and the stonemason was a wonderfully interesting and informative person to speak to, who was able to share so much knowledge from their amazing career. As one of very few experts in the practice it was a great privilege to learn from him and for him to teach us the basics in a hands on lesson. I still have the small rose I carved on this day!
What I gained from the RAU
The MSc Conservation and Management of Historic Buildings was perfectly suited in order to equip me with the knowledge and skills needed for my current role as a Conservation Officer at Waverley Borough Council. The course was very much focused and ordered around making the knowledge and skills that we learnt applicable to the real world and a real job.
