Transcript of Careers Service video
Here at the RAU we aim to support students throughout the time of their studies, from being a first year student looking for part-time work perhaps, to then going on to looking for a placement in their second year and then on to looking for that graduate role when they finish their studies.
We have regular CV clinics when students can just drop in on an informal basis
if they just want a quick review of their CVs, then we also offer more in-depth guidance meetings when we can discuss with a student how they want to put themselves over to an employer, to make sure that they're highlighting their skills and experience in the best way.
We also offer the opportunity for students to come along and have a mock interview to help them prepare and hopefully calm their nerves before an interview situation.
We hold a number of career fairs in the autumn term and we also have an online job portal where all sorts of opportunities are posted that students can apply for.
I'm a graduate of the RAU. They provided so many industry opportunities and I think the placement opportunity was key in the work that I did after.
I think coming along and talking to someone else about your plans or perhaps if you're unsure of your direction really helps and start developing your skills and your confidence crucially.
The career service of the RAU has been fantastic. I first went to them when I was looking to apply for quite a competitive work experience programme. I was able to secure that placement from that as well, I was able to actually build on that CV and secure a placement year at a national company in London at next year.
Without career support at the RAU I would not have got that original work experience and definitely would not have got this placement, so it's absolutely fantastic.
