As good wishes from alumni pour in, the oldest agricultural university in the English-speaking world marks its 175th anniversary with a special cake cutting ceremony.

Today (15 September) marks the ‘official’ 175th birthday of the Royal Agricultural University (RAU); for its first 169 years the Royal Agricultural College (RAC). The occasion was marked with a special cake cutting ceremony, with Vice-Chancellor Jo Price joined by Chair of Governors, John Pain, and Earl and Countess Bathurst.

Royal Agricultural University extends global reach with launch of Joint Institute in China

The Royal Agricultural University (RAU) today (Monday 14 September) opens a major Joint Institute with Qingdao Agricultural University (QAU) in China which will help to expand transnational higher education in the land-based sector.

In a very competitive process, the RAU/QAU institute was one of only 11 that were selected by the Chinese Ministry of Education to be established this year. In fact, the RAU is also the only small specialist university in the UK to have established a Joint Institute with endorsement from the Chinese government.

Top education award for Business School lecturer

Senior Lecturer in Business Strategy Dr Inge Hill from the Royal Agricultural University’s (RAU) School of Business and Entrepreneurship has won an Education Award from the British Academy of Management.

Dr Hill has received the award in the Experienced Practitioner Category within the Education Practice Award competition. She is the first female award winner.

Alumnus funds prize to celebrate excellence in real estate and land management

The Royal Agricultural University (RAU) has launched a generous new prize, funded by alumnus Richard Pilkington of Pilkington Farms Partnership, which will see the recipient awarded their final year tuition fee based on sustained, excellent, academic performance throughout the first two years of study.

The Pilkington Farms Partnership Prize will be given to the top, second-year undergraduate student in the RAU’s School of Real Estate and Land Management (RELM), with the final year’s fee

Research leads to new thinking on traditional horse diets

A study by researchers at the Royal Agricultural University (RAU) has shown that high growth rates can be achieved in Thoroughbred foals when fed a high-fibre diet, compared to the traditional cereal-based feed.

Dr Simon Daniels and Professor Meriel Moore-Colyer, from the RAU’s School of Equine Management and Science, carried out their studies in collaboration with Eclipse Feeds in Ireland.

Alumni David Poussier and Pascal Hegglin are the co-founders of The Consumer Brand, an initiative which engages with consumers and empowers them to decide where their food comes from, how it is produced and what price they are willing to pay.

Applications open for funding award for students with Welsh connections

Did you know that there is an award which supports prospective students with Welsh connections to study at the Royal Agricultural University (RAU)?

With £4,500 on offer to undergraduates, and £3,000 for postgraduates, the Sir Emrys Jones Memorial Trust Award is in memory of William Emrys Jones, the son of a Welsh hill famer, who was a leading figure in the rejuvenation of agricultural production after World War II, and probably had a greater influence on British farming than any other individual.

RAU shortlisted for national student choice awards

The Royal Agricultural University (RAU) is among the top 10 universities in the University of the Year and Job Prospects categories in the Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2020.

Now in their seventh year, the Whatuni Student Choice Awards are a celebration of the best universities and higher education institutions in the UK and are based directly on reviews of students themselves.

Whatuni gathered over 41,000 student reviews from 150 participating universities. It is the second year in a row that the RAU has been nominated in these two categories.
