Farmers’ concerns about cultured meat go far beyond the farm gate

While some UK farmers see the advances in the development of cultured, or cell-based meat, as potential competition to traditional meat production, others from the farming community have suggested it could create a premium for pasture-reared meat.

Research into farmers’ attitudes towards cultured meat, published in the journal Frontiers in Sustainable Food Systems, reports the views of UK farmers about this potentially disruptive technology.

Julia Jenkins

Biography 

Julia joined the University in December 2023 and has responsibility for the University’s development strategy.  She works with donors to support the University’s strategic funding needs to enable its vision for the future and also works with our extensive alumni network to benefit students.

She has a background in income generation and external relations working previously for medical charity Cobalt, Cheltenham Festivals, Oxford Brookes University and Gloucestershire University.

The Royal Agricultural University (RAU) has a long history of collaborating with China and recently hosted a delegation from Shenyang University (SYU) in the north east of China.

The RAU has recently received approval from the Chinese Ministry of Education to collaborate with SYU and this visit was to discuss that collaboration and research partnerships.
